Holiday Weekend Lineup

Email

There are 14 graded stakes over the Memorial Day weekend, 10 of them Monday including the three Grade 1's: The Met Mile at Belmont and the Gamely and Shoemaker Mile at Hollywood:

The Hollywood Grade 1's were drawn today. The Gamely will be run at the third race Monday with a field of five led by G1 winners Precious Kitten and Rutherienne. The Shoemaker Mile drew eight, including G1 winners Daytona, Ever a Friend and 9-year-old Perfect Drift, making his first start since last July and his first for trainer Richard Mandella.

The Met Mile will be drawn Saturday. Commentator at 122 and Divine Park at 117 are the expected starting highweights.

I plan to be in action all weekend while trying to get caught up on the Belmont meeting to date, which I've neglected amid all this Triple Crown tomfoolery. I'll post a summary of notable performances here by Monday.

There seem to be some error on part of Hollywood officials in results put after a long gap in the 7th race at your track. This photo clearly shows that 2 has won the race but the photo judge gave the race to nos. 6. Hollywood is always looked as part of a very high standard of racing and such gross mistakes should not be taken lightly. Regards, Bobby

I got taken down at Hollywood the other day, for a marginal bump at best. How can anybody watch that Belmont race and not think the stewards didn't have a bet on the winner??????. I had no interest at all, but if I had the 2nd horse I would bet pretty much anything that he was coming down. I got one better, I was playing the Japanese races on Youbet Saturday night. I put my first 3 bets in about 1 hour before the 1st race, {which was the 8th race}, then ran out to the store. I'm watching the races I catch a $1 superfecta in the 8th for $975 and a $5 exacta in the 9th for $101. I also am alive with 4 for the Pick 3. I catch it for $1 it pays $508.I log on to check my balance So I'm ahead about $1500, right?......I check my account and YOUBET REFUNDED ALL THE BETS FOR THE FIRST 2 RACES, AND I'M STILL WAITING FOR AN EXPLANATION. Do I have any recourse legally, I mean to lose is one thing to be ROBBED is another.

I think I may have had my worst beat in my tons of races I have bet. I felt bad for the connections and the horse and Valvidia but, did anyone else have that horse at Hollywood

One day I read that Santa Anita is still not draining properly and the next day I read that they are sticking with the troubled surface for at least another year. What is going on out there? Let's see if they stick to their guns once they see the dip in the Breeders Cup handle this year. Who's even going to run in the ("Gentleman's") Classic? For many fans, no Curlin = no interest. Student Council is probably 3-1 in Vegas right now... what's wrong with this picture? Justin, No offense was ever taken.

I too would love a good reason why Prado didnt come down in the 7th at Belmont. I had a huge double with the Kimmel horse.

Steve, With the nice carryover going into Met Mile day, you have to post some of your thoughts as you burn the midnight oil. Who are your two preliminary singles?

Steve, a question how does a horse not get tossed from the 7th at Belmont on Sat. the 24th, either the 5 drifted pushing the 3 into the 6,7,9 or the 3 just took a right hand turn almost knocking the 6 down, the 9 was flying almost ended up in the grandstand and still finished 3rd. I did not have a bet on this race and after watching it did not have another bet the rest of the day.

Beerbelly, What a great pick on Monastic Springs. The horse had the breeding to be a good one, and it's amazing he was let off at 12-1. Prado knew he had horse all the way around there, and some nervous moments as it looked like he had caused some shuffling in deep stretch there, but the leader was floating out as well. It's always easy to pick favorites to win, but when you can pinpoint these 12-1 shots, keep 'em coming! Kudos for a great selection.

Prado should have absolutely come down. You don't have to be a genius to figure that one out. What were the stewards smoking yesterday? And just for kicks, I did have the winner. Thankfully, I make my wagers online because I probably would have torn up the tickets once I saw the head-on. Bad call all around. And, what is with Prado lately? He's been quite bold the last few months, ever since his slump. Has he been working with Cordero?
