Here's Your Breeders' Cup Pre-Entry Cheat Sheet

Here's the final Breeders' Cup lineup of races, followed by your 2012 horse-by-horse cheat sheet, with starts, victories, earnings, highest winning level, career-best Beyer Speed Figure and trainer for each horse. I'll be augmenting this chart with odds, sires and other tidbits in the days ahead. Final fields with riders (and the undercard races) will be drawn Monday.

Pre-entry past performances are up, so get cracking.

In the chart below, stats for each of the 180 pre-entered horses are listed in the body of their first-preference races, with second-preference entrants listed at the bottom of each race. The 180 pre-entrants have combined to win 797 of 2,176 career starts (36.6 %) and earned $115.9 million.

As a P4/P5 bettor I'm quite frankly a little stunned by the configuration of those bets. There's no early P4 on Friday involving the Juvie Sprint and Marathon; instead they've overlapped 3 races and tacked on the much anticipated Twilight Derby to the late P4. The Juvenile is not a part of any P4 or P5, with an obvious substitute being the Turf Sprint. And there is not one P5 comprised solely of Cup races..... Shaking my head, facepalm, etc....

What awful betting options. Two Pick-4's on Day 1 and they overlap in THREE races? What the hell? Two Pick 4's on Saturday and the Juvenile isn't included. I mean, why not have 3 Pick 4's on BOTH days. So stupid. How do you mess this up?

i added the cheat sheet to my favorites and it printed out right away.......$.10 min on superfectas for the BC races?

The BC has to adopt some kind of qualification rule. Hazardous in the Juv Sprint is a cheap claimer. # lifetime races. Broke maiden in 12K claimer then ran for 16K and 20K. This horse should not be in the BC,
Shibbley More than 1 year ago
Let's hope Hazardous doesn't win, lest we find out the whole Juvenile Sprint is unworthy of the BC.

What about Hightail? 0-8 and still a maiden...Lucas trained bless his heart

Couldn't disagree more! First of all, if a horse is healthy and owners are willing to pay the price then let the horse run. One of the things that keep horse racing go it is that all owners dream! (I actually was a small partner of a horse that ran 2nd in a Claiming Crown Race and asked the owner about the BC-He (rightfully) laughed at me but nontheless my philosophy is "If you feel froggy, leap" And 2 other things to remember: First 2yos can improve out of nowhere, and secondly (the big point) is that with the lasix ban in 2yo races, if I had a half-way decent horse who has shown thru scoping, breeding, etc. that he may not bleed coming off lasix, I'd enter him in a heartbeat. The lasix ban makes this a crapshoot!

Weather forecast for Elmont, NY next week???? Don't ever wonder why u won't get the Breeders' Cup again at Belmont. Just watch the replays from the BC at Monmouth 2007.
Perl More than 1 year ago
Belmont deserves to be a part of the BC rotation regarless of weather concerns, which are valid.
Shibbley More than 1 year ago
They don't play any Superbowls in N.Y., Chicago or Green Bay. People want to have a great time outdoors, so the weather can be much more than a minor inconvenience, with rain or worse. I love a crisp winters day out at Belmont, with the temperature in the the mid 40's and the sun out. Too bad you can't count on it. If you could, I would imagine they would hold the BC there, three out of every six years.

Shibbley.....Super Bowl 48 is at Giant Stadium in 2014. Insert foot in mouth.

Ummmm. Upcoming Super Bowl in NY, Shibbley
Eric Wewers More than 1 year ago
Shibbley is kind of right.. Super Bowl is there only because of the new stadium. Will be years before it gets back there, if ever again.

Weather is a major concern and that along with Belmont is in much need of a face lift, sunny California and a well maintained track such as Santa Anita bring alot of appeal and most important $$$$$$$$$$. Good weather beautiful track brings out the people and that is the bottom line.

Matt: The weather this year (Sandy) is arguably a freakish storm already dubbed a "Frankenstorm" (a term that legendary New York air personality Dan Ingram in his days on WCBS-FM in the early-to-mid 1990s often used, calling such the "Channel 2 Weather Monster" as homage to the fact the legendary father-and-son weather team of Dr. Frank and Storm Field were on WCBS-TV at the time). I'm sure BC Ltd. is breathing a huge sigh of relief the BC is not at Belmont Park (where a lot of people wanted it), Monmouth Park or even Churchill Downs as Sandy would have played major havoc with any of those locations (including Churchill, which could be looking at SNOW from this system middle of next week). That said, Belmont should be looked at for future BCs, especially if lights are installed that allow the BC to be at night as I do think we are headed in that direction (and already have been somewhat with some of the BC races under the lights the last two years at CD and the BC Classic this year in Saturday night prime time in the east for the first time ever).

Not a single first time lasix Euro in the entire BC card ?!?!?! Last 3 years euros are 1/19 in the money WITHOUT lasix..... Only Nahrain & Treasure Beach are getting lasix and they both have had it before before. Cogito getting it again also but now in O'Neill barn. Even St Nicholas Abbey isn't getting lasix and he had it last year when he won. Bet on the Euros without lasix at your own peril !!! And yes they can and have won races without in the past. But 1/19 ??? and that was an even $ favorite in the turf when it had 7 horses !!!! In last 3 years the Euros have had 10 winners with lasix and 1/19 itm without ......... Sorry but I just don't believe in coincidences

The question of which older horses will run on Lasix will not be answered until entries are taken Monday. Pre-entries, and thus pre-entry pp's, do not have that information so it's too soon to say there won't be any first-time Lasix with the Euros.
Zakk W. More than 1 year ago
I'm sure some or all the Euros will run with lasix. Look at Treasure Beach 5 races in the US & lasix every time. It just doesn't make sense to me that when running in Europe they run without it & when they run here they use it just like all the local horses. This tells me that there must be an advantage to using lasix, why give something to the horses just for the heck of it. I hope they eventually ban this drug!

Live it to thoroughbred racing to experiment with no lasix on the biggest weekend of the year. I find this incredibly stupid. However - what else would one expect from thoroughbred racing.

Only 9 entered in juvee fillies with 5 of them cross entered in Juvee Sprint. Hope they go to gate with 4 horses so the asses who thought this one up can be embarrassed.
Robert More than 1 year ago
a healthy horse doesnt need lasix and if all of the horses in the race aren't on it then it is a fair race.
Scott Verhine More than 1 year ago
Steve, DRF needs to continue to hammer the issue that a Breeders Cup in California four out of six years is killing the concept of the races. It doesn't have to be at Churchill every year but clearly California is not drawing enough horses and it takes away from the appeal of the race for the casual fan. If there are not 14 horses in each race, except the Turf, something is wrong. 5 million bucks for the Classic? You have got to be kidding me that owners gave that purse to Game On Dude without much of a fight.
Slew32A More than 1 year ago
Wow! Thanks. It doesn't have to go to Churchill every year?....Belmont's the fairest to all just move it up a couple weeks.
Eric More than 1 year ago
Wish they would have left the Juvenile races out of the major multi race wagers. The no Lasix rule is too unpredictable.
