Hawthorne: Speed still strong on turf

Suspended Moon just scored a front-running win in race 3 at Hawthorne on Friday, winning a two-turn, $25K maiden-claimer on turf. That's still another in a line of speed winners on the grass course that dates to Wednesday's program. Fast playing and firm, and until further notice, carrying the front-end types.

Two of three dirt winners led from start to finish, but both made sense, and a third winner rallied from about eight lengths off the early lead while four paths wide in the stretch. One of the speed winners was Wakeupbrandon in race 1, and indeed, after a surprisingly slow start to the meet, trainer Roger Brueggemann does appear to be waking up.
