GULFSTREAM: What was that jock thinking?

The reference was to Manny Cruz aboard Chosen Empire in the 7th race. Chosen Empire opened about a 14 length lead down the backstretch after covering the first six furlongs of the one mile and one sixteenth maiden special weight event on the grass in 1:09.03, a lead he blew to the late running Wild Entry who easily mowed down the tiring leader in the final furlong. To his credit, Chosen Empire did well to finish third, just losing second money to second choice Smokin' Cat near the wire.

Earlier in the card, trainer Tom Albertrani unveiled a good looking 3-year-old Belle of the Hall who circled the field, drew off to a very impressive debut win. Owned by West Point Thoroughbreds, the son of Graeme Hall was no secret, opening at even money before closing as the 2-1 second choice behind Truly a Myth who caved badly and finished off the board once relinquishing his lead to the winner leaving the turn.

The performance was all the more impressive considering the main track has been decidedly speed bias the entrie day.
