The jockeys refused to ride the 8th race over the inner turf course and as a result all the remaining races on the card have been switched from the turf to a sloppy main track. Creating a nightmare situation for those still alive in the late pick-6, pick-4 and pick-3.  According to management, the riders not only refused to ride on the grass, they even refused to come out of the room and at least walk the course or warm up on the course to see if it was possible to continue on the grass in light of all the money tied up in multiple race wagers.

Obviously this situation not the fault of the house as the rain hit rather suddenly. It also is another example of why the state's pari-mutuel rules must be changed to would allow the track to pay out a consolation on any leg of a multiple wager already completed before surface changes of this nature are made.

The horses are now out on the track with Speight of Hand the odds on favorite to win this event on the dirt. Anybody holding a live ticket on any of the scratched horses(the 3, 5, 6, 8 and 10 all came out) now get the 2 in the multiple wagers.
