Gulfstream: Rainbow six survives another day

Email

The Jackpot for the Rainbow 6 will live on as all horses in the finale are covered by multiple tickets. The pool will now be over $1.2 million on Saturday.

A victory by 2-1 second choice Sea Avery assured the Rainbow 6 would survive. The classy but injuryprone gelding returned from a 17 month layoff, he hadn't run since the G3 Fall Highweight on Nov. 26, 2009, had trained like a demon here this winter and spring then ran to his works by stalking and readily overtaking the leaders to win comfortable for trainer Allen Iwinski. How's Your Halo, a Grade 2 winner here a couple of years back, looked a bit like his former self when rallying to be second best at 25-1.

Hard to believe the stewards didn't at least post the inquiry sign following the conclusion of the sixth race and even harder to believe E T Baird, the rider of runner-up You're Too Wild, did not claim foul after Nurse Dolce with apprentice Ryan Curatolo aboard  ducked right out into her path forcing You're Too Wild to alter course sharply while rallying in late stretch. Nurse Dolce ultimately held on to win by about a half length and everybody in the press office was expecting some kind of action but the final result was made official with nary a red light in sight on the tote board.
