Gulfstream: Fri. scratches etc.

It's been sunny and a bit on the chilly side here at GP this morning, with an overnight rain having cooled things off. Not enough moisture to leave the main track anything but fast, however, and the turf is still firm. High temps expected to reach about 70 later this Friday afternoon.

We've got the first meaningful 3yo alw here today (race 8), and it'll be interesting to see how Shadow Warrior (J.Leparoux, R.Arnold) acquits himself at the one-turn mile. If he wins, go ahead and throw his hat into the Derby ring . . .

We have two stakes here tomorrow (Spec Bid and Hal's Hope), followed by the twin turf stakes (Ft. Lauderdale for boys and Marshua's River for girls) on Sunday.

There were a handful of winners yesterday following a one-day, $35k carryover into what has proven to be an immediately popular 50-cent pick 5 (races 5-9), with each winning ticket paying $22,832. The handle was a robust $123,889, so there figures to be quite a bit of interest in that wager throughout the meet. Meanwhile, the dime pick 6 (races 4-9) hasn't been nearly as hot, with only $8,885 bet yesterday, making for a 2-day carry of a mere $5,230 into today. Duly noted, all of it . . .

Not a whole lot of early changes today on a 9-race card that starts at 12:55 ET. Here they are:

Race 1 - SCR #1(p.o.e) Maybelle Slew; SCR #5 Poetic Princess; R.Maragh rides #6 Absolute Heaven
