Fornatale: Top stakes action for contests

Email

On many Sundays, online handicapping contests are a great way to spice up solid but average cards of racing. On this Sunday, July 5, the high qualifty of racing might be the reason you want to play in a contest in the first place. The contest sequence for both NHCQualify.com and DRFQualify.com features a fantastic slate including nine stakes, six of them graded, highlighted by Gulfstream's Summit of Speed races and the Grade 1 United Nations from Monmouth. As always, free DRF Classic past performances for all contest races are available on the contest sites.

On NHCQualify.com, players can enter now for the one-day National Handicapping Championship qualifier. Buy-in is $165 and players will have a chance to win at least two and up to three spots at the National Handicapping Championship. The contest will be limited to 198 entries.

The NHC is the one handicapping tournament where players can't just buy-in; seats must be secured via another tournament. A purse of $2.5 million is expected at this year's NHC and NHCQualify.com will send more players to the event than anywhere else.

In addition to the NHC seats, qualifiers will also receive a four-night hotel package at Treasure Island, who host the NHC in January, and a $500 travel voucher.

Over on DRFQualify.com, also on Sunday, there is a one-day qualifier for the Gulfstream Park live-bankroll contest being held on Sept. 19. Buy-in is just $60 and up to two $3,000 seats will be awarded plus a $500 travel allowance.

Here are the races that will be used for both qualifiers:

3:55    Belmont 6 (statebred turf allowance)

4:10    Gulfstream 8 (listed stake)
