Fornatale: Qualifier for Santa Anita event Sunday

The Santa Anita contest experience has been well documented, so suffice it to say that horseplayers seeking a VIP experience at one of the country’s greatest tracks should strongly consider playing in the May Santa Anita Betting Challenge. The contest costs $4,000, with $3,000 acting as a live bankroll and the other $1,000 going into the prize pool. The prize pool will be paid out in the form of cash and seats to both the Breeders’ Cup Betting Challenge – the world’s most prestigious live-bankroll handicapping contest – and the National Handicapping Championship – the most prestigious handicapping contest of all.

The best way to play in the May contest and experience all that the Great Race Place has to offer is to win your way in through DRFQualify.com. There will be weekly qualifiers between now and mid-May, the first of which takes place Sunday. Buy-in is $90, and up to four $4,000 seats to the May Santa Anita Betting Challenge will be awarded, with two guaranteed. There will be one seat granted for every 58 entries in the qualifying contest, with a maximum of 232 entries. Players who qualify also will receive a $500 travel allowance.

Here is a look at the races for the contest:
4:30 Gulfstream 8
4:40 Tampa 9
4:54 Fair Grounds 6

While it might not be quite as impressive an array of races as the bonanza of graded stakes activity Saturday, it’s still a solid card of midlevel races with full fields – three of the Fair Grounds races go to post with 14 runners. It’s certainly appropriate that one-third of the races are from Santa Anita. Turf-racing fans will be pleased to see seven races slated for the green – let’s just hope the weather cooperates. Maiden-race players get one maiden special weight and one maiden claimer to contend with, which is good for them and not overwhelming for those who don’t like maiden races.

Love the SA break in the middle of the sequence! Great job on the over all spacing of the races. Tampa usually runs late and you're giving a lot of time to the next contest races. I really appreciate the thought put into Sunday's contest.

Tx, Nick. Nice to hear some appreciation for all the hard work I know goes into this stuff. I have nothing to do with it, just for the record.
