Fairplex: Pedroza not cleared to ride

Email

Jockey Martin Pedroza, who was sick and did not ride Thursday at Fairplex Park, was not cleared by the track doctor to ride his early mounts on Friday. He cannot resume riding until he obtains medical clearance, according to the board of stewards.

Pedroza, who was in the jockeys' room at Fairplex, is the leading rider at the meet with 35 wins.

Track steward Darrel McHargue said "the doctor has not provided clearance" for Pedroza to ride.

Pedroza was taken off his first two mounts, including race-4 winner Spanish Ice.

Pedroza had an outside shot to match his meet record of 51 wins, but after missing the Thursday card and not riding his first scheduled mounts Friday, it is unlikely Pedroza will set the record.
