Fairplex: $42k pick six carryover

The first pick six carryover of the 2010 Los Angeles County Fair meet is up for grabs Thursday at Fairplex Park – $42,261.

Favorites dominated thoroughbred races the first five days of the meet, winning at a 53-percent clip (28 for 52), while jockey Martin Pedroza has won with half his mounts. Pedroza won four races Wednesday, increasing his total to 24 wins from 48 mounts.

Surprisingly, Pedroza does not ride a program favorite in the pick six sequence Thursday on races 6-11.

The sequence begins in race 6, scheduled post time 3:05. Warren’s Concept is the 2-1 favorite in the four-furlong, $20,000 maiden-claimer. Pedroza rides 3-1 third choice Warren’s Concept.

In race 7, Pedroza had the opportunity to ride 8-5 favorite Meili, but opted instead for Blind Optimism, 9-2 third choice. The six and one-half furlong race is for $8,000 claiming fillies and mares that have not won two races.

Race 8 is a $32,000 maiden-claimer for 2-year-olds at seven furlongs, Warrens Heartthrob is the 8-5 favorite; Pedroza rides 5-1 third choice Confer.

Race 9 is an $8,000 claiming race for 3-year-old fillies in which Dos Veinte is the 8-5 favorite. Pedroza rides 2-1 second choice Sweet and Jazzy for trainer Neil French. Pedroza and French combined Wednesday to win the $50,000 C.B. Afflerbaugh Stakes with Celestic Night.

Race 10 is a first-condition allowance for California-bred filly-mare sprinters in which Sugar Spike is the 5-2 favorite under David Flores. Pedroza rides 4-1 second choice Ashee.

Finally in race 11, a $20,000 maiden-claimer at six furlongs, Fortyfivewithruby is the 5-2 favorite; Pedroza does not have a mount.
