Fair Grounds: Two in a row for Wicked Deed

Email

Steve Asmussen-trained Wicked Deed rewarded backers who knocked her down to even money in race 8, but 3yo Harlan's Holiday filly had to work much harder to win than she had in a blowout MSW score last time. That's not so surprising, given the class rise, but I have to say I was anticpating a little more from Wicked Deed. She stalked the pace down the backstretch, moved up three wide on the turn, was briefly caught between horses as Lovenotlost made a quick four-wide move coming into the stretch, and finally drew clear at the sixteenth pole to beat another last-out maiden winner, Sam's Bliss. Still, Sam's Bliss stayed on even terms the last 50 yards and galloped out right with the winner, and I'll be mildly interested to see if Wicked Deed, who has sprinted four times, comes back at one turn or two.
