Fair Grounds: Three in the books, Sunday conditions

Clear, windy, with wind out of the north (cross-wind) at about 15 mph. 53 degrees. Fast and firm, turf rail at 0 feet.

Big thing today, surface-wise, is determining whether the grass course still is favoring outside paths. Jocks think it is. Race 3 was on turf, and outside-pace horse Future Covenant wired the field with all riders keeping away from the inside rail.

Main track seems slower than earlier in the week. Granted, race 2 was only a $12.5K maiden-claimer, but six-furlong winning time of 1:13.03 the slowest three-quarters of the week, if memory serves. Fast early splits in race 1 (23.01, 47.71 in a two-turn dirt claimer), but again, final time was mild, 1:45.39 for one mile and 70 yards.
