Fair Grounds: Sour solid in two-turn debut

Sour did what he was expected to do in race 3, cruising to victory as an odds-on favorite in a two-turn maiden race for 3-year-olds. Sour, second to Machen sprinting in his career debut, sat comfortably in second as the leader went 24.58 seconds, 49.12, and 1:14.93. The mile split was 1:40.40, with Sour now in front, the final time a moderate 1:44.75 for and one mile 70 yards. The track certainly doesn't seem to be producing fast times (open La-bred allowance horses went the same distance in 1:45.75 a race later, albeit off a slower pace), but I'd guess Sour will be be getting something lower than the 81 Beyer he earned in his debut. Sour, a Lemon Drop Kid colt trained by Al Stall, was ridden out victory and galloped out willingly past the wire.
