Fair Grounds: The other Maker

One of the most proven angles in the book: Short field, trainer with two uncoupled entrants, you take the longer price. Mike Maker-trained Wild and Wicked was 3-5 (absurd price) in race 3, while Mike Maker-trained Riviera Chic was 7-1. Of course it was the latter who made a clear and comfortable lead after disposing of early pace Absolutely Smart, and easily held off Wild and Wicked and long-layoff comebacker Bella Medaglia to win this N1X allowance under Shane Sellers. Riviera Chic did make some sense. She'd been second -- a distant second -- last out at Keeneland, and though this was her dirt debut, that could've been viewed as a positive given her pedigree, by Medaglia d'Oro and out of a Thunder Gulch mare. Wild and Wicked nosed out Bella Medaglia for the place.
