Fair Grounds: Not a Fun Filled first

First twilight card of the '10 - '11 season.  These programs attract pretty good crowds, and extra people means more less-savvy bettors. The kind of bettors that gravitate toward heavy favorites. Heavy favorites like Fun Filled, who was a 1-2 favorite in race 1 off a good-looking debut turf win at Woodbine. Sorry, novice wagerers. Ambient, who had been a flat sixth last out at Churchill in her first turf try, that after a maiden-claiming debut win, cut the corner with verve in this one-mile grass route and easily bested Fun Filled, who had no late lick despite setting a pace that could've been timed with a sun dial: 25.85, 51.97, 1:17.33! I guess that take-away for those casual fans enjoying Drago's oysters in the party tent is this: Racing is a complicated and confusing game. Anyway, we at least know the inside of the turf course is fine, as it was not two race weeks ago. And that Rosie Napravnik continues to make good use of the inside path.

It's chilly, 50 degrees, with northwest wind (cross/tail through stretch) blowing 10 - 18 mph. Fast and firm, turf rail 10 feet outside zero position.
