Fair Grounds: Fast track, but how fast was Miss Kinderhook?

70 degrees, sunny, almost no wind today. Fast and firm.

Race 4 was for 3yo filly N1X allowance horses at one mile and 40 yards, making it a potential prep for the Tiffany Lass Stakes on Jan. 22, and I'd imagine we might see the race's winner, Miss Kinderhook, come back in that stakes. Its just that I have no idea how well she ran today. Open-lengths win while going away in first dirt route, but the field was just five horses to begin with and scratched down to 4, and the fractions Miss Kinderhook set on a clear lead, 25.49 seconds and 49.51, were very slow. Given even her MSW sprint win at LaD, she should have pulled away. Final time of 1:41.30 for one mile and 40 yards means what? Did compare favorably to a pair of mile-and-70-yard races earlier, but both those were for low-level stock. And no doubt, this is a lively main track: Aspire to Succeed (who got lucky when main pace rival Part of My Family missed the break) went 22.42 and 45.76 on the way to six-furlong final time of 1:09.97 in a $7.5K claimer!
