Fair Grounds: Cash Refund still perfect in New Orleans

Five starts, five Fair Grounds wins for Cash Refund, who just turned back Backtalk to capture a high-end allowance race. Not sure Cash Refund is going to get all the way back to his peak form from early in 2010, but he definitely rebounded from two sub-par showings in Kentucky this fall, both of which were excusable. Backtalk ranged up to get on even terms at the eighth pole but was late changing leads while Cash Refund regained the momentum and edged away late.

I thought the track was a little slow earlier in in the card, but I was wrong, and it was only the winning horses who were a little slow. Ide Ball took an La-bred $25K claimer/ N2X allowance with six furlongs in 1:10.57 in race 6, and Cash Refund zipped three-quarters in 1:09.34, among the best times this meet.

As for conditions, it's mid-50s, partly cloudy, light variable wind. Main track fast, turf soft with rail 10 feet out.
