Fair Grounds: Canon Man wins again

Is there anything Canon Man won't do right this winter? Blitz open N1X dirt sprinters: check. Crush high-end La-bred allowance sprinters on dirt: Check. Score game open-allowance turf-sprint victory: Check. That last one came in race 8, where Canon Man was headed in deep stretch by pace rival Future Covenant, but came back to win by about a head. Three in a row for Canon Man, who know is 5-5 in Fair Grounds races and 0-5 at other venues.

Canon Man had run poorly in a pair of Louisiana Downs turf sprints last summer, and there's a good lesson here. Superficially, the thought might have been that Canon Man couldn't show his best on turf, but his dirt form around the time of the grass failures also was far worse than what he'd shown last winter at Fair Grounds. It's not that Canon Man couldn't perform on turf, but he was in no shape to perform well on anything at the time. $18 to win if you figured that out.

Nothing whatsover from aptly named Hype, who was bet way down, probably in part because of the ever-growing "Rosie Factor," that is, horses ridden by Rosie Napravnik taking excess betting action.
