Fair Grounds: Bombs away in Thursday feature

If you will indulge a bit of redboarding: How in the world did Daisy Devine just pay $82.20 winning race 6, the Thursday feature, a two-turn 2yo filly allowance race? I'm not saying I lived Daisy to win -- not at all. But I am saying that there were only six horses in this race, and that four of them, including even-money Switching Gears, never had run two turns. Daisy Devine was among the debuting routers, and she had started just twice, comfortably capturing a $30K maiden-claiming sprint at FG after making her career debut on KEE Polytrack. Two solid works since, some stamina in pedigree: Sorry, that's no 40-1 shot. Oh -- conspiracy theorists also will note that she was the longer (roughly 20 times as long) priced of an uncoupled same-trainer entry. Final time for the one mile 40 yards was a very respectable 1:43.70. Switching Gears, unresponsive when asked at the top of the stretch, somehow wound up second.
