Elite Alex set to make 3-year-old debut

A group of promising 3-year-olds is headed to post in the upcoming seventh race at Oaklawn.

Elite Alex, a $300,000 son of champion Afleet Alex, is the even-money favorite. He won his maiden at first asking back in July at Delaware Park. Calvin Borel has the mount on the horse trained by Tim Ritchey.

Commander, who is 7-1 for trainer Larry Jones, made a significant physical impression walking up to the paddock. He is one of the top 3-year-olds Jones has at Oaklawn. The horse will be Jones's first starter out of retirement. And based on Commander's looks, it would not be a surprise to see him be the trainer's first winner back.
