Twelve championship races were contested and $4,053,312 was sent through the windows on Breeders Crown night at Woodbine Racetrack. There were winners, losers and plenty of memorable moments. I have to say that my best selection on the night was predicting that the rain would end around post time. At least I got something right. It was chilly and windy, but still a good night for racing.

After watching all of the Breeders Crown eliminations and prep races, here is my race-by-race look at each of the 12 divisions. These are not my picks; simply observations from the eliminations, preps and past races. On Sunday I spent an hour walking the track and barn area of The Red Mile. It was the early morning hours and only grooms and horses adorned the many barns that spread from the middle of the stretch through the far turn. The Red Mile is what you make of it. It really depends on where you look and what you choose to see.

Permit me if you will a moment to boost my ego. During the opening week of Grand Circuit action at the Red Mile I nailed 15 winners in 35 races for a total return of $101.10 based on a $2 wager. I can only hope the trend will continue from Thursday through Sunday when the track concludes their two week stakes-filled schedule with four consecutive 1pm programs.

In a few short hours I will be on a plane headed to the Delaware County Fair. Few experiences compare to roaming the grounds at Delaware. I could spend an entire column on the sights and sounds, but instead I’ll provide something which hopefully offers more value: Analysis. Delaware is offering multiple guaranteed wagers on their Wednesday and Thursday cards. Wednesday’s program features $25K and $50K pick four guarantees, while Thursday provides three promised pools: $25K pick three; $40K pick four; $60K pick four.
