Del Mar: Zucker is rebounding

After a rough start to the year, going winless with his first 27 starters, trainer Howard Zucker has been much better off at Del Mar, winning with his first two starters at the meeting. In Wednesay's fifth race, Te Rapa ($8.40) won a maiden claimer over 1 1-16 miles, outfinishing 7-5 favorite Coal Region Kid in the stretch to win by 1 3-4 lengths.

Zucker does not have any additional runners on Wednesday, but there will be widespread interest in the final three races on the program. There was a pick six carryover of $239,490 from Sunday, and bettors added $1,629,364 on Wednesday.

The $1 pick three covering the first three races of Wednesday's pick six paid $153. Three Cuties ($7.40) and Hameildaeme ($14.80) won the first two legs.
