Del Mar: Valenzuela doubles

Email

Jockey Patrick Valenzuela had his first two-win day on Saturday since returning to riding in California late last month.

Valenzuela won the second race on Leaving New York ($49.40) and the seventh race on McKenzies Way ($15). McKenzies Way won a maiden race for 2-year-olds over 5 1-2 furlongs by 4 1-4 lengths over Hollywood Heist, finishing in 1:04.93. Trained by Bobby Troeger, McKenzies Way made his second start on Saturday, having finished sixth in his debut at Hollywood Park on July 18.

In Saturday's race, McKenzies Way led throughout, racing on the rail. An objection was lodged by jockey David Flores, who rode third-place finisher Doughboy, alleging that Valenzuela caused interference that hampered Doughboy on the backstretch. T'he stewards disallowed the claim of foul.
