Del Mar: Two claims in 2nd

Purple Starduster and Silver Street, the second and third-place finishers in Wednesday's second race, were each claimed for $40,000 in two-way shakes.

Purple Starduster, who led to the final sixteenth, was claimed by Dean Greenman. Silver Street was claimed by Jack Carava.

The six-furlong race for maiden claimers was won by the first-time starter Nicos Memory ($23.60), who rallied wide through the stretch and drew off to win by 6 3-4 lengths under jockey Joel Rosario. Rosario swept the early double on Wednesday.

Purple Starduster was ridden by 18-year-old apprentice jockey Kennel Pellot, who recently arrived from Philadelphia. Purple Starduster was his first mount in California. Later on Wednesday, Pellot rides Dearly Concerned (5-1 on the morning-line) in the fifth race and Good Mojo (15-1) in the eighth race.
