Del Mar: A true horse for course

Shediak benefited from an ideal trip to win his second consecutive race and first stakes in Saturday's Windy Sands Handicap.

Ridden by Patrick Valenzuela, Shediak ($49.80) closed on the rail and won by 1 3-4 lengths over El Gato Malo, with Achak third in the field of eight. Shediak was the longest shot in a field of eight.

Kevlar Kid, the 7-5 favorite, fought in a speed duel with Warning Song for the first half-mile and faded to finish fifth.

Shediak, a 6-year-old gelding, has won 3 of 24 starts. Trained by Ben Cecil for Triple B Farms, Shediak has taken to Del Mar's Polytrack surface, winning an optional claimer over 6 1-2 furlongs in his debut on the surface on Aug. 20.
