Del Mar: Tropic Storm leads throughout


Tropic Storm ran the fastest one-mile time of the meeting on the Polytrack main track, leading throughout Saturday's $83,325 Windy Sands Handicap.

Ridden by David Flores, Tropic Storm ($8.60)  was timed in 1:35.84, finishing 2 1-4 lengths in front of Red Door Drive. Unusual Suspect was third, with 2-1 favorite Informed fourth in the field of six. Tropic Storm set a pace of 22.94 and 46.25 seconds for the first half-mile, leading by as many as 2 1-2 lengths on the backstretch.

Tropic Storm made his second start of the year in the Windy Sandy, having finished second in an optional claimer over five furlongs on turf on Aug. 6. That race was his first start since a third in the Grade 2 Oak Tree Mile at Santa Anita in September 2008.
