Del Mar: Tricky start to pick six

Sandy Cheeks ($14.20) rallied along the inside through the stretch to win Saturday's fifth race, the first leg of a pick six that drew a pool of $355,812. Sandy Cheeks was the fourth choice in a field of six; Arte Viva, who finished third, was the even-money favorite.

Sandy Cheeks was ridden by Corey Nakatani, his first win of the meeting in his 26th mount. Nakatani gave Sandy Cheeks an ideal ride, stalking the pace in third to early stretch before making progress on the rail.

Sandy Cheeks finished 1 1-4 lengths in front of Westwood Pride, finishing in 1:41.74. Trained by Barry Abrams for breeder Richard Rosenberg, Sandy Cheeks was entered to be claimed for $80,000, but there were no takers.
