Email

Mentidoso, who pulled an upset in Wednesday's sixth race, was claimed for $25,000 from trainer Vann Belvoir, the second horse he lost via claim on opening day.

Belvoir did not wait around to reinvest the money. In the seventh race, he claimed Fullbridled's Sis, who finished seventh in a $25,000 optional claimer over six furlongs.

Mentidoso ($38.40) gave jockey Chantal Sutherland her first career win at Del Mar and Belvoir's first as a trainer. Mentidoso rallied from eighth to win by 2 3-4 lengths with a wide move.

The other claims in the sixth were Ominous Thomas, who finished fourth and was claimed by Mark Glatt, and Memphis Mobster, who ran seventh and was claimed by Adam Kitchingman.
