Del Mar: Stewards DQ first race winner

Amazombie, who finished first by a nose as the 3-2 favorite over Tropic Storm, was disqualified and placed last of five for causing interference in a five-furlong turf sprint in the stretch of Friday's first race, the stewards ruled.

Amazombie drifted to the inside in the stretch, forcing Sky Victor to be checked by jockey Victor Espinoza. Sky Victor finished last, a neck behind fourth-place finisher Details R Sketchy. The stewards ruled that the interference cost Sky Victor a placing, which resulted in the disqualification of Amazombie to last.

As a result of the decision, Tropic Storm, Quietly Mine and Details R Sketchy were awarded the first three placings.

The optional claimer on turf was the first start for Tropic Storm since a third-place finish in the Grade 2 Oak Tree Mile at Santa Anita in 2008.
