Del Mar: Private Affair stuns in stakes

Private Affair ($20) gave trainer Ruben Cardenas his second win of the day, and third of the year, with an upset in Friday's CTT and TOC Handicap.

The win clinched a pick six carryover of $110,856 for Saturday's nine-race card.

Making her American debut, Private Affair rallied on the rail in the final furlong to outfinish 26-1 Suzettes Friend in the marathon over 1 3-8 miles on turf for fillies and mares. Private Affair was timed in 2:01.75, and won by 2 1-2 lengths. Mutually Benefit, who set the pace, finished third. She was the 5-2 favorite.

There were so many longshot winners on Friday that the carryover was announced after the sixth race, the fifth leg of the bet.
