Email

Thursday's pick six at Del Mar was worth $88,748 to one winning ticketholder, but there was high drama in the final race won by Stoney Fleece ($7.20).

The first-time starter broke slowly and was at the back of a field of 11 maiden claimers until the turn. Jockey Joe Talamo guided Stoney Fleece wide through the stretch and won by a neck over Troy Story, a 38-1 shot. The 14-1 shot Arethereanycookies finished third. Had Troy Story won there would have been a pick six carryover into Friday.

The winner was claimed in a two-way shake by John Sadler for $40,000. The colt is by Decarchy and raced for trainer Mike Puype in his debut on Thursday.

Stoney Fleece was 6-1 on the morning-line. He was as high as 7-1 in early betting, odds that fell steadily before post time.

There is a carryover of $29,756 in the 50-cent super high five for Friday following the surprise finishes of Troy Story and Arethereanycookies in the last race. Friday's super high five race is the eighth and final race on a program that begins at 4 p.m.
