Del Mar: O'Neill stable shows life

Trainer Doug O'Neill won for the second time at the current Del Mar meeting with his 32nd starter in Sunday's fifth race, with the favorite Naturaliste.

Ridden by Martin Pedroza, Naturaliste ($4.60) led early, stalked Boomtown on the turn and pulled clear through the stretch to win by 3 1-4 lengths, finishing five furlongs in 58.06 seconds. Boomtown held second in the field of nine.

O'Neill's stable has struggled in the first two weeks of the meeting. He has had four second- and four third-place finishers in addition to two winners. He has one more starter on Sunday - the 10-1 shot Mizzen Donald in the seventh race, a starter allowance over 6 1-2 furlongs.

Rocque's Gold, who finished third, was vanned off  because of concern over a tendon, according to track officials.
