Del Mar: Odd day for Sadler

Trainer John Sadler won with his first two starters on Wednesday - and lost both via claim.

In the first race, Hudson Landing ($8) won a $32,000 claimer on turf and was taken in a six-way shake.

In the third race, Soul Custody ($9.80) was claimed in a five-way shake by trainer Jack Carava. Soul Custody (Garrett Gomez) ran six furlongs in 1:10.21, winning the $25,000 claimer by three-quarters of a length over Church Avenue, who was claimed in a four-way shake by Ron Ellis.

There were two other claims. Elegant, who finished fourth, was claimed in a three-way shake by trainer William E. Morey, while Savan' Brianne, who finished sixth, was claimed in a two-way shake by Robertino Diodoro.

Soul Custody won the first leg of a pick six that drew a pool of $182,403.

Sadler can win a third race on Wednesday, and potentially lose another horse via claim, when Peaceful Town (5-1 on the morning-line) starts in the fifth race, a six-furlong dash for $32,000 claimes.
