Del Mar: O'Callaghan's drought ends

Email

Trainer Carl O'Callaghan had his first winner since Kinsale King in the $2 million Golden Shaheen in Dubai in March when Leaving New York pulled an upset in an optional claimer for state-breds in Saturday's second race.

Ridden by Patrick Valenzuela, Leaving New York ($49.40) overcame a slow start, and rallied on the rail through the stretch to win the race over 6 1-2 furlongs by 1 1-4 lengths over Scofield Barracks.

Tribal Justice, who finished sixth, was claimed in a two-way shake by Craig Lewis.
