Del Mar: New money surpasses $5m

In pursuit of a record pick six carryover of $1,597,470, bettors added $5,059,121 to the pool on Saturday.

The first leg was won by the pacesetter Movie Duty ($7.40), who shook off a threat from 9-5 favorite Can't Topper in early stretch and held on to beat 18-1 Nothing to Fear by 1 1-4 lengths under jockey Rafael Bejarano. Can't Topper finished third in the $25,000 claiming race over six furlongs for 3-year-old fillies.

Movie Duty had won a starter allowance over six furlongs on July 28 in her most recent start and has won 3 of her last 5 starts for tariner Vladimir Cerin.
