Del Mar: Mitchell doubles, horses claimed

Trainer Mike Mitchell won two races on Thursday, and both horses were claimed from him.

Sheeza Beast ($4) won the fourth race over a mile for $12,500 claimers and was taken by trainer Sal Gonzalez. In the seventh race, an optional claimer over five furlongs on turf, Quick Enough ($7.60) won by three-quarters of a length over pacesetter Winter Camp and was taken for $40,000 by trainer Doug O'Neill.

Quick Enough was timed in 55.46 seconds. He was not in Mitchell's barn for long. Quick Enough returned from a 15-month layoff here on July 25, winning a $32,000 claimer over six furlongs on the main track. Mitchell claimed him that day; Thursday's race was the 6-year-old gelding's first race since that start.

It turned out to be a lucrative short-term investment for a partnership and Mitchell. Aside the $8,000 difference on the claim itself, Quick Enough earned $42,120 from Thursday's purse, including a bonus for being a California-bred winning in open company.
