Del Mar: Mitchell doubles


Trainer Mike Mitchell, who became the winningest trainer in Del Mar history on Friday, had two winners in the first four races on Sunday, and both were claimed from him.

Mitchell won the first race $25,000 claimers with the Churchill invader March Mary ($6.20) and the fourth race for $12,500 claimers with Subpoena the Dress ($7). Subpoena the Dress closed from third on the turn of a sprint over 6 1-2 furlongs to win by three-quarters of a length over Akeela.

There were six claims in the race. Subpoena the Dress was taken by W.E. Morey in a two-way shake; Indiara, who was third, was claimed by George Papaprodromou; Lit de Bet, who was fourth, was claimed in a two-way shake by Bob Hess, Jr.; Cato Major, who finished fifth, was claimed by Vann Belvoir; Judge Joan, who was sixth, was claimed in a four-way shake by Jeff Mullins; and Sing Sing Cindrela, who was eighth of nine, was claimed by Sal Gonzalez.

All of the claims were for $12,500.
