Del Mar: Late scratch in 9th

The 20-1 shot English Puddin was withdrawn from a maiden claimer over 5 1-2 furlongs in Thursday's eighth race after jockey Hector Barrios was shaken up in the starting gate. Barrios was taken to first aid and was cleared, according to track officials.

The race was won by Evita's Crown ($9.40) who held off a late run from 7-5 favorite Kvell to win by a nose. Evita's Crown is trained by Vann Belvoir, who is in his first season of having a stable at Del Mar.

Evita's Crown and Kvell were the first two finishers of a super high five that began with a carryover of $34,938. Bettors added $82,757 to the pool on Thursday. The 50-cent super high five paid $19,618 for the combination of 8-12-2-7-1. Believe Me, a 62-1 shot, finished third, followed by California Roll (10-1) and Love My Girl (19-1).
