Del Mar: 'Jonesy' gets left, wins

Lookin for Jonesy's chances appeared doomed at the start of Sunday's first race when the filly broke about three lengths behind the field in a sprint over 5 1-2 furlongs for 2-year-old maidens.

But on the turn and especially through the stretch, Lookin for Jonesy showed a remarkable turn of foot to win the race for statebreds fillies by a length over Vicki Victoria, proving to be much the best. Looking for Jonesy ($12.20) was timed in 1:04.20.

The stretch run was the subject of an inquiry, with track stewards reviewing an incident when eventual fourth-place finisher Warren's Mo Money took up in traffic in the stretch. The stewards ruled that the incident did not affect the placings. Lookin for Jonesy, who rallied widest, was not part of the inquiry.

Lookin for Jonesy is a candidate for the $100,000 Generous Portion Stakes at Del Mar on Aug. 31, trainer Jerry Hollendorfer said.
