Del Mar: Jax El unlucky in turf maiden

Jax El was unlucky to finish fifth in Friday's third race, a maiden race for fillies and mares over a mile on turf for statebreds.

Making her second career start, Jax El was in traffic at the end of the backstretch and was forced to wait at the eighth pole, when jockey Corey Nakatani tried to make a move between Spanish Bunny and Move On Gypsy. Jax El was beaten 2 1-2 lengths.

The race was won by Donner Wasser ($15.80), who rallied four wide on the turn to outfinish 6-5 favorite Move On Gypsy by 1 1-4 lengths, finishing in 1:35.41.

The third race was the first leg of the pick six, which attracted a strong pool of $283,332.
