Jockey Patrick Valenzuela had his second three-day win of the meeting on Wednesday, highlighted by Hi Ho Yodeler's upset win in the Generous Portion Stakes for statebred 2-year-old fillies.
Valenzuela gave Hi Ho Yodeler ($32) a solid ride, sneaking through on the inside on the turn before winning by 3 1-4 lengths over Lucky Sis, a 54-1 shot. The $1 exacta combining the first two returned $819.30.
Hi Ho Yodeler's come from behind style was typical of the main track winners on Wednesday, which makes the third-place finisher by Miles Rules all the more impressive. Miles Rules led by a half-length through fractions of 22.21 and 45.76 seconds, and faded to finish 3 1-2 lengths behind Hi Ho Yodeler.
Trick Skate, who was mentioned as a longshot to watch in this space, did not fare well, finishing 12th as a 77-1 outsider. Trick Skate was mid-pack on the backstretch and steadily faded through the final quarter-mile.
Best Bets
DEVON ROCK, the day's best, drew clear faded late in well graded entry level allowance mild making first start off the claim for new connections. Rail draw a big plus at this distance. Need only repeat last to get back on winning track for first time since 3yo campaign. JAKESAM like preferred choice also blew clear lead in final furlong under similarly conditioned allowance race but again somewhat unfavorably drawn at a mile and one sixteenth. BLIMEY give team Pletch a solid one-two punch here.
