Del Mar: Indian Winter has sharp debut

Indian Winter, a first-time starter by Indian Charlie, won his debut in Saturday's sixth race, running down pacesetter Jaycito in the final sixteenth of a six-furlong race.

Indian Winter ($4) stalked the pace under jockey Rafael Bejarano, moved outside of Jaycito entering the stretch and won by a half-length in 1:11.35. Trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, Indian Winter had been scratched from a maiden race on Aug. 14 in favor of this race.

The race was reduced to six starters following the scratch of Prayer for Relief, who was coupled with Jaycito as a Zayat Stables-owned entry. Prayer for Relief became upset in the gate, was unloaded, unseated jockey Martin Pedroza and ran off in the backstretch chute. The Jaycito-Prayer for Relief entry was 3-1 at the time and was sent off at 4-1.
