Del Mar: Ignored Coluda wins easily

Email

Coluda was the 5-2 second choice on the morning-line for Wednesday's second race, but was ignored in the betting and won anyway. Ridden by Joel Rosario, Coluda ($13.20) led throughout the one-mile race for $32,000 claimers, winning by 3 1-4 lengths over Straightomidnight, who was making his first start since April and first as a gelding.

Sufi Dancer, knocked down to the 6-5 favorite, never threatened the leader and finished third.

Coluda races for trainer John Sadler, who is slowly creeping into range of leader Doug O'Neill in the trainer's standings. Through Wednesday's second race, O'Neill leads with 22 wins, seven more than Sadler and 10 more than Mike Mitchell.

O'Neill has an excellent chance to win the Brubaker Stakes on Wednesday with Hey Elvis. Sadler has leading contenders in the fifth race (Cactus Flyer) and sixth race (Entabeni).
