Del Mar: Headley ends drought

Trainer Gus Headley scored his first winner since April 2009 when King Ledley overcame a touch of trouble to win a $25,000 claimer over 1 1-16 miles on turf in Wednesday's second race.

King Ledley ($18) finished 1 3-4 lengths in front of Isle of Prado, who led briefly in early stretch. King Ledley was ridden by Kayla Stra, her first career winner at Del Mar, and her sixth win of 2011. King Ledley was Headley's eighth starter of the year. When the field moved from the infield chute to the main oval shortly after the start, King Ledley took up when racing in close quarters.

Race favorite Battle School, sent off at 8-5, finished fifth in the field of eight.

Isle of Prado was claimed by Mike Mitchell.
