Del Mar: Grayson outsider leads throughout


Holding Her Ground, the only filly in the field at double-digit odds, pulled a shock upset in Thursday's seventh race, giving trainer Bobby Grayson just his second win of the year.

Holding Her Ground ($54) ran six furlongs in 1:09.65, holding off 9-5 favorite Fund Raiser who had every chance to catch the winner in the stretch and was beaten 1 1-4 lengths. Ridden by Christian Santiago Reyes, Holding Her Ground led throughout, setting fractions of 22.74 and 45.96 seconds. She led by as many as gwo lengths on the backstreetch and was never threatened.

By Put It Back, Holding Her Ground has won 3 of 12 starts. She gave Grayson his first winner of the year by winning a starter allowance at Pleasanton on June 2. Through Thursday, Grayson has had 11 starters this season.

Holding Her Ground was entered for a $62,500 claiming price on Thursday.
