Del Mar: Gomez doubles

Jockey Garrett Gomez won twice on Sunday, including the ninth race on Mr. Saturdaynight ($5.60) and will finish the week no worse than third in the standings with 16 wins. Through Sunday's ninth race, jockey Rafael Bejarano had 19 wins, two more than Joe Talamo. Gomez, in third, was followed by Joel Rosario with 13 wins.

Bejarano, Rosario and Talamo had mounts in the last race on Sunday.

Gomez won the ninth race on Mr. Saturdaynight by a half-length over the fast-closing Skippy Due (Bejarano). Earlier, Gomez won the sixth with Wild Rose ($13.20).

Mr. Saturdaynight gave trainer George Papaprodromou his second win of the week. Wednesday, the 35-year-old trainer won the first stakes of his career with Ruler of Dubai in the Graduation Stakes for state-breds.

Mr. Saturdaynight was one of two horses claimed in the ninth race for $10,000. Mr. Saturdaynight was claimed in a 15-way shake by Dallas Keen. Blame the Jockey, who finshed eighth, was claimed by Jack Carava.
