Del Mar: Glatt wins, predicts slow track

Asno Del Caramelo finished in a dead-heat for first with the ex-maiden claimer Ribat in Saturday's second race for 2-year-old maidens over six furlongs. T'he final time of 1:11.93 indicates that the track could be playing slow on a clear day.

Asno Del Caramelo ($3.20) led by two lengths but was fully extended under jockey Martin Pedroza to finish evenly with Ribat ($7.20), who rallied from fifth in a field of seven.

Mark Glatt, who trains Asno Del Caramelo, said after the race the sunshine may lead to slow times on the Polytrack synthetic surface. "It's different than what we train on," Glatt said, referring to the typically cool overcast conditions in the mornings. "I think they'll run slower times. It makes it tough when you train over one surface and train over another."

While conditions are sunny, temperatures are in the low 70s.

The first and third races were on turf. Six of the remaining seven races are on the main track.
