Del Mar: Gate to wire in the double

Thursday's early double was won by horses who led throughout - on the synthetic main track and the turf course.

In the first race, Clearance Clarence ($12) won a maiden claimer over a mile by 2 3-4 lengths over Grand Maneuver, finishing in 1:39.49. Clearance Clarence was the seventh winner to lead throughout in a one-mile race on the main track since Aug. 13.

In the second race, Oak Kye Why ($6.40) set an early pace of 22.46 and 47.09 seconds and held off a threat from Uncle Greg to win a one-mile starter allowance on turf by three-quarters of a length.
