Del Mar: Early scratches for Thursday

With a pick six carryover of $127,414, interest is sure to be strong in Thursday's eight-race program.

The pick six covers the third through eighth races, and there was only one early scratch on Wednesday. In Thursday's seventh race, Pop'shands Are Hot has been withdrawn from an optional claimer over five furlongs on turf. There will be further scratches in that race since only eight horses start in five-furlong turf races, and there are still 11 listed in the entries.

There are a few short-priced favorites on the morning-line that will be pivotal for pick six bettors. In the fifth race, a maiden race over a mile for 2-year-old fillies, Cayanna, who is winless in five starts, is the 8-5 morning-line favorite in a weak field of eight. In the sixth race, for $62,500 claimers for 3-year-olds over seven furlongs, Thomas Baines is the 9-5 morning-line favorite, trying to string together two wins for the first time in his career. Thomas Baines won a $62,500 race for 3-year-olds over 6 1-2 furlongs here on July 24.
